Also, if you have Norton Recycle Bin Protection installed - turn it off.

I have exactly the same problem, gets to "sorting font list" and just hangs!
I have to reboot as XP will not let me end the program. I've looked for the .lst files in the folders specified but the dont appear to be there! A search of my system only found 5 .lst files and all are associated with different progs. Everything was fine until today, and no changes have been made to the system since I last ran PS.
Any help greatly appreciated! ***@eircom.net

First, you are searching incorrectly then. Search for Adobefnt*.LST. There IS one (or more) for photohsop. Have photoshop closed and rename them - they are rebuilt upon app startup.

Second, you probably have a corrupt font. You'll have to hunt that down. Remove half of your fonts (put them in a temp folder), start photoshop. If it works, your corrupt font is in the group you moved. Keep moving halves until you isolate the culprit.

If all else fails, try resetting your preferences per the procedure in the FAQ.

Peace,
Tony

Cecil- Thanks for the informstion on the other fontlist file hidden away in the TypeSpt folder. I love deleting files and I'll pursue this one with relish!

Thanks for the advice. I removed the Adobe Photoshop 7 prefs file and the prog opened twice - then back to before. I found and deleted the *.list files (2 of them) to no avail. If I remove hals the contents of my C/windows/fonts folder to a temp dir, what about the contents of the ~/common files/adobe/fonts? - I would presume their OK as Photoshop has been reinstalled.
